Why we started ionworks

Climate change is one of the most urgent challenges of our time, and batteries are a key bottleneck, from electric vehicles to renewable energy storage. Battery simulations reduce the number of experiments required and hence speed up battery R&D and reduce costs; thus they improve the chances of success of new technologies and shorten their development cycle.

However, in a rapidly growing industry, many battery companies lack the time or expertise to create and maintain their own battery simulation software.

At Ionworks, we are solving this problem by creating battery simulation software built on the open-source PyBaMM library. As members of the core development team of PyBaMM, we are well positioned to deliver the best support to companies and continue to enhance the open-source software and community. In addition, we are developing commercial software to meet the unique needs of our customers.

Right now, we are focused on setting up early customer contracts and building our product. We have several product ideas we’re excited to show the world, and we are actively talking to as many people as possible to find out what the real pain points are so that we can build something people want.

We’d love to hear from everyone: if you work on batteries in any capacity please reach out!
